Description
This type of terrain is not so hard to achieve and I believe only a basic start on this type of architectural route. Function graphs are necessary but it can just involve stretching fractals in different directions and blending in various ways. Any fractal can be useful, not just obvious repititous ones. Blends and fractals that produce hard edges are probably best avoided if you want smoother displacements. A curve graph can be used for steps by using one simple graph on a repeat and then another graph can distort this further. The curve graph is a very powerful feature. There are numerous ways. One dimensional fractals on different dimensions can be blended. I have some Manhatton style terrains but texturing is hard on these so I'm working my way from rough rock like textures, which are easier, to more precise geometries.

Personally I love these kind of "Inhabited" looking terrains....This looks like a very interesting place to explore!!....great mats!!..and a very nice combination of colors!!..I will try to follow what you say (above)...probably with a lot of trial & error as the "Function graph" is still a hard thing for me to grasp...I only seem to get things done when following a step by step tutorial....it kills me that I can't get my head round the "FG"!...^_^...Excellent work E!!

I`m a big fun of the procedural techno:)

I echo Jaybeeh on this. I too can't seem to get my head around anything too technical, but I love this very much. Perhaps a step by step tut on Function graphs is what we luddites need.

Fantastic image! The contrasting water color makes this one.
