Description

Kolekole River: At one time, we had many river shrimps in these rivers. When there was a Luau Party, we would catch these little shrimps with nets and pan fry them. The river shrimps were always on the menu for a party. There were much to eat until someone introduced the prawns to the mouth of river. The prawns would crawl up the river, over the rocks and ate the little river shrimps. Now its harder to find river shrimps. Aloha and thank you for viewing.

Nice work on this river shot...sad how people think they are helping by introducing alien species to the river. River Opae... one of my favorite pupu's. Aloha!

Oh that is too bad you lost your river shrimps! We have similar problems here, and people do things like that all over, unfortunately. This is a beautiful place, and it looks like a place to really enjoy! ;) Excellent image.

I love (salty gray) shrimp - they cost an arm and a leg too, like three times as much as pink shrimp. But over here in Europe we're talking about different sizes. When my girlfriend in Texas took me to a supermarket and showed me their shrimp I fell over. Still, there's nothing like raw gray shrimp (about half an inch in length curled up) that fishermen bring back from the (North) sea. On the other hand, seeing where you get your giant (pink) shrimp from, I wanna change right now. Absolutely great shot, like all your former postings! Aloha!

Aloha Jock..... Prawns looks like large Jumbo shrimp, different from crayfish. Although the prawns doesn't taste quite like the shrimp, they do taste ok. The river shrimp are very little, about an inch or so. They are very tasty but will not make a complete meal (small). Aloha... Errol

The bastards! I'll get on the next plane and come eat all those nasty prawn for ya! Seriously, it is shame that happened. So many native Hawaiian animals have suffered from the introduction of outside beasties. Great quasi peekaboo shot with the framing of the rocks and tree. And I thought the LAST river image was rocky, wow!

Hmmm, changing nature's balance can be a disturbing thing. Pity the shrimps are no longer that abundant, but the river still looks great!
