Description
October 14th 1943. 60 US aircraft and 600 men lost.
The German fighter pilots were so desperate to prevent the bombing of their loved ones, they were prepared to fly through their own flak in order to get at the Fortresses.
I have tried to illustrate one small incident in the running fights which took place right across Germany. Pure carnage and yet total bravery by all concerned.
The picture has now been edited to accomodate the early comments. You were all right - it does look better.
Always willing to learn. Thanks for looking everyone. (Thinks 'must try harder!)

Tremendious history lesson. Even with bright skies I would expect tracer trails as 50 cal tracers do burn, and the nose down bomber shows no damage nor crew members in the air. Even given those minor details your work is remarkable. For many years I had lunch daily with one of those B-17 pilots. B-17s models are well done. I Look forward to more uploads. :-) Dwayne

Wow,Retired, good insight, and yes that all would have been nice as well as some foreground bursts...more enemy aircraft{to show that desperation}...still a great image!

So well done! Love the models used and the fight scene with so much action :)

Good Job Warren...tell 'em all that this is work in progress!!!! Cheers. Alan.

Great work! The B-17 going down does need damage... Perhaps the sky could be a more intense blue to show the altitude. Was there any allied fighter support for these bombers?

I kind of like it.

Also, if you see old film footage of raids of this type, you can see that the planes had contrails flowing away behind the wings, just like jets have today. Also, there is famous footage of a B-17 going down, and one of its' wings is seperating from the plane from damage, with flame and smoke. If you portray this, it would be much more dramatic. Otherwise, a good start.

Nicely done.

Good scene. My dad was on a B17 crew. If he were still here I'd ask for an autographed print to give him.

Look again, there is damage to both pilot side wings and I believe that there is enough to cause the nosedive. All in all a tremendous picture. Good work, guy!

Vraiment impressionant!
