kloster eberbach - moenchsdormitorium another shot from the wonderful afternoon in kloster eberbach - some more may follow... at least one i guess... :) location: kloster eberbach, rheingau, germany framing/presentation: well - a frame... ;) and here some further information about the monastery, about "Kloster Eberbach": Kloster Eberbach - Eberbach Monastery a first trace in history books mentioned a settlement of Augustinian monks founded 1116 at the place where the monastery now exists. from 1131 to 1136 the Benedictinias resided there. starting 1136 the Cistercian monk and abbot Bernhard from Clairvaux sent a couple of Cistercian monks via Mainz to Eberbach. Those Monks came from the Burgundy area (France). So they could easily merge their knowledge about wine with the existing knowledge in the Rheingau. the monastery grew very fast and became a strong econimic factor in the area. the basis for this was wine for more than 600 years. in the best times there were living at least 150 monks and more than 450 lay brothers. the heaviest damage throuout the years happened to the monastery during the "Drei
