Description

Things happen for a reason. Two days ago , in the morning, my sister's 14 year old cat died. Two days ago, in the afternoon, my daughter found an orphan. "Orphan" (my daughter has yet to settle on a name for the baby) was found crawling on the sidewalk close to the buildings at a busy intersection. She searched high and low for the mother, other kittens, a den, any evidence of where this baby belonged. The only thing she found was a male cat close by. Possibly he killed the rest of the litter. Possibly the mother was run over by a car while moving her litter. Possibly it came from a house with careless children that carried it outside and forgot about it. In any case, the kitten was very badly dehydrated, and I was not confident that it would survive. It did. It goes to work with me now, and we all take turns caring for it. How awesome to work at a job where I am allowed to bring pets to work every day! I get night duty, so I let the rest of them fight over who gets which feeding. Everyone loves a baby. Productivity is down. LOL The dog is Loki, a rescued feral dog. She has an extremely strong mothering instict, and helped to care for Wukka (previous images) when she was a baby. She is about 8 now and I have had her for about 6 years, but I have known her since she was a wild puppy with her littermates. Her story is one for another day. And yes, I know Loki is a male name, but it suits her, as she was mischief personified. LOL Thanks for looking. :)

A wonderful story ! The animals are always more intelligents than the men... and it's not rare to see a dog with small kitten or a cat with small dogs... I hope this Orphan had a very long and peaceful life with you ! This photograph is beautiful, so much tenderness... Great !

Aw, poor little kitty. At least she's found a home and some people (and a dog) to own. Very nice story.

This is almost painful. I carry a photo in my wallet of a kitten I tried to rescue about 5 years ago. I left him with a vet (hypothermia) and 2 days later the vet told me I could take him home. In the morning he was dead beside my pillow. I will never forget it.

Oh I see picking on peoples emotional side just to post images eh!... Well it works... I have two cats as well.. I got mine from the SPCA last year... just needed some company after my partner died... but I think I may have got more than I bargined for... 3am wake-up chasings around the house... needing their breakfast at 4am... and another at 7am... God it's like having kids!!! But... I'm such a softy for cats... they have trained me well... this little bugger looks like a fighter for sure!
