Description
This photograph was taken on Orford Ness which is a large shingle spit about 10miles long just off the Suffolk coast UK.
The Ness was used as a military test site from the time of the first World War. From 1953 to 1966 facilities were created for testing the components of nuclear weapons. Although no nuclear material was said to be involved, the high explosive initiator was present and a test failure might have resulted in a catastrophic explosion. The tests carried out in this building were designed to mimic the rigours to which a weapon might be subjected before detonation and included vibration, extremes of temperature, shocks and G forces. Happily this is no longer in use as you can see.

If I raise the capital for an airline ticket, can I stay at your place and will you show me this facility? I just love the play of light and shadow. The angle is perfect to. You are full of surprises Ian. I hope there is much more to this series than just this one image?

Very interesting history and the wonderful play of light make this abstract an excellent series opener!

Strange how aesthetically pleasing such decrepit constructions can be when photographed in stark black and white. This sort of thing works so often. Nice to find another fellow Englishman here by the way!
