Description

Exploring the trails of Mauna Loa. I wasn't planning to walk the trails of Mauna Loa yet as I needed to feel my way around first. It is very easy to lose your sense of direction and get lost on Mauna Loa as compared to Mauna Kea. Here I am at the 6,000 ft level looking down towards the volcano crater Halemaumau. An immense landscape that makes you easily lose track and orientation, that's clear! Maps, GPS, etc. can help, but it's a good start to learn to know the place a bit better! Seems a promising start to me, Errol! ;)

Wow, enjoy that. I visited the caldera once and was assaulted by the sulfur fumes. But it was worth it for the veiw down into it. I hope you post some photos of that. This is a wonderful teaser shot and shows some very interesting hiking terrain.
