Description

It was a gorgeous day! So we took Kiska and Yukon to a new dog park. This park had a large pond that was the center of a good sized park, completely fenced in. Yukon loves the water, so when we turned him loose, he went ape! He was in and out of the water like 20 times! The green stuff that looks like algae, isn't. Atleast it isn't the slimy stuff I was worried about. It rinsed right off. Still, just to watch it was "Gross!" LOL! Both dogs slipped into "coma-like" states when we came home! Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday! ; )

This stuff was made up of leaf-like material, tiny perfect dots, smaller that a pencil eraser! Like paper-punch holes! (Chads?) only teenie-tiny. They weren't slimy at all. My dad had a name for it, I can't remember. But he laughed and said it was harmless to animals.

Okay I have the official description, this stuff is "Duck Weed" read on: The family of duckweeds (botanically, the Lemnaceae) are the smallest flowering plants. These plants grow floating in still or slow-moving fresh water around the globe, except in the coldest regions. The growth of these high-protein plants can be extremely rapid. Lemna is one of the best known of this group and has been the subject of much research. Researchers are using these plants to study basic plant development, plant biochemistry, photosynthesis, the toxicity of hazardous substances, and much more. Genetic engineers are cloning duckweed genes and modifying duckweeds to inexpensively produce pharmaceuticals. Environmental scientists are using duckweeds to remove unwanted substances from water. Aquaculturalists find them an inexpensive feed source for fish farming. Instead of getting rid of your duckweeds, think instead of how they are cleaning your water. Apparently Duck Weed is one of natures anitoxidents, it cleans bodies of water, and is a good thing.
