saw him hiding in my bottle palm while watering my garden and thought with it being dusk it might make an interesting picture.

Too much light on the bug IMHO but the composition of your picture is good. Maybe try without flash.

NASTY!!!! EEEEEWWWW!!!! I hate those grasshoppers, they are soooo gross!!! Why is it that they cant even take out the direction theyre jumping in??? It looks like in whatever direction their facing when they land they keep jumping in that one. The other day i saw one that practically jumped back and forth cause he accidently did a flip in mid air. Silly things. Beatiful capture!!! Those straws look incredible. Have a great day #:O)

Getting those night shots is definitely challenging! IT's very easy to get too much flash not enough flash. I would try the delayed flash thingy. It might get a different effect and perhaps a slighty slower shutter speed to compensate? I asking more than I'm telling. ;0) Excellent shot btw!
