They told me this candle lighting/snuffing device is the "Lucifer." Maybe I have been misinformed...but if not then never mind...but ..Because I am so curious...I asked them "how the hell they came up w/such a name..why not just call it a big-ass lighter?.... So I asked three different Catholic(
Roman) people just what is the deal w/this unholy name of the sacred candle tool(or maybe it was two). One was even a real live Priest. They didn't know(not surprised was I ). They teach this stuff but don't even know why or what in so many regards. Sometimes I juat feel like saying "F--- Them!!!", but I shall refrain cuz that iz prob. uncool.
I would like to get me one of things and use it as as lighter for one of those super long water pipes.

what a strange name for a candle snuffing device! weird! wonder how they came up with it? that's just plain bizzare! can't believe the priests don't know. hmmmmmmm...perhaps it's a secret??? fantastic image! a fire extinguisher and a candle extinguisher! yep...they belong together alright! nice compo and shooting, jeff!

(1) Google showed me this dictionary definition ... LUCIFER - 'light Bearer' 1. Venus as the morning star; 2. prince of the fallen angels. (NAD). (2) My good buddy Google also found that before Milton, Lucifer had never been a name of the Devil. Quite the reverse, since the Christian Saviour is made to say of himself in Revelations (xvi. 22.) "I am . . . the bright morning star" or Lucifer.

There are so many contradictions in religion that it is of no surprise that there are world conflicts. Years ago I had a German soldiers belt from the WW 2, it had a slogan on it "Gott Mitt Uns" which in translation meant "God With Us"...like, yeah okay, kill six million people with Gods consent...ummm, I don't think so! My own views on religions are quite complex in a simple kind of paradoxal way...e.g. if Adam and Eve had not sinned then we as a species would not be here. And as for my own whacky thoughts...well, I really don't think you want to go there! Jeff, this is a cool picture with an equally cool piece of narative from your good-self. Have a happy Sunday!

I am not downplaying the religion, for every religion has it's purpose, but I can understand the naming of this device, simply because they understand the association to the name "Lucifer" as one of the ultimate sin and fire being a necessary evil. I have found from studying a wide range of different religions, that much of their ( Roman Catholic ) reasons for their teachings were very political and sometimes a name holds double standards. You certainly opened up a can of worms here for the best of us soul searchers :D ...LOL ... I love a good argument. I like the way you have it placed by the fire extinguisher :P Gives the object a lot of Irony to say the least ! Excellent capture and excellent post !!~*****~!!
