I love the dark feel of it all, but the ocean waves look a bit too flat and glassy.

Well done. But I think the waves could use some improvement. their form makes it appear as singular and it looks like the image or watersurface is "bend" and not just "wavy". and it reflects to much. Sea that far out with such waves is more "broken", needsa deep blue colour and much less reflection. I think you could add foam to it as well, to the wavetops and where the water hits the ship. the lightning and background is very welldone, though as are the textures for the sails. the composition is very good, including the POV - the water needs just a little improvement. Nice one! :D

I think it is a great image and it looks more like a rolling wave in a creepy sea.

Sails are too transparent. Canvas can be thin but was never sheer enough to see through. Also, water looks like a rubber, or plastic tarp, too viscuous, almost like a lake of oil...
