Description

A tomb known as Bara Gumbad or the Big Dome is a square tomb with an imposing dome in located within the Lodi Garden premises. Its facades look as if it is double storeyed. It has turrets on corners, arches and stuccowork and painting ornamenting the interiors. It is believed that the tomb belongs to an officer of high rank who served Sikandar Lodi. Besides this tomb is the Bara-Gumbad mosque built with ashlar stone. Its rectangular prayer-hall has five arched openings and is a fine example of the early Mughal mosques. The tapering minarets built in the Tughluq style, colored tiles and Quranic inscriptions ornament this mosque. Built in 1494, this mosque was constructed during the reign of Sikandar Lodi. I shall soon share with you all the Tomb and the Mosque from the outside. This one just gives you an idea of the beautiful interior walls. Just one fraction part of it. Thank you!! SNAKEY

Wow walls and buildings that have lasted centuries, the architecture here is so beautifully designed, too bad these builders are not still present with their secrets for these wonderful old buildings.

***** On the presentation. Excellent idea of using part of the image, so effectively, for the frame. The color of the stone is magical. I'd like a floor made of tile with that shade.
