The Messerschmidt reminds me a lot of a Swedish jet from the 1950's - the SAAB "Tunnen" (sp?)

SAAB J-29 "Tunnan" (Flying Barrel). You are not the first person to have seen the similarites between the ME P 1101 and the J-29 and the facts are Sweden got hold of documents about technical breakthroughs in Nazi Germany at the end of WW II and without a doubt SAAB used those documents in the development of the J-29. As a matter of fact the next SAAB design, J-32 "Lansen" (Lance) has a striking similarity to another Nazi German design which only reached paper before the war ended. Amongst the documents were the technical data on the slightly bent wings which the german engineers experimented with on their jet plane designs. The main Allied Jet warplanes in WW II, the english Gloster Meteor and the American P-80 Shooting Star, had straight wings. A remain from the piston engined Warplane. It wasnt until the F-86 the Americans added bent wings on their series produced Jet warplanes. The P 1101 most likely just existed as a 1:1 scale mock up made of wood. It was used to make various experiments on the general design before they would go on and make the real plane.

You have to think - It's a good job they weren't that bit more ahead in their experiments otherwise the allies could have been in trouble - at least in the air! the bombers would have been knocked down like bowling pins, Rob
