Description

"Everyone is like a butterfly, they start out ugly and awkward and then morph into beautiful graceful butterflies that everyone loves." --Drew Barrymore

Jeroen (Enmos) is helping me ID this butterfly. I have not been able to track it down online or in my books. The closest I came is the Black Swallowtail, but that one is darker and has markings on the outer edges of the upper wings. Not to mention the spots on this one. Perhaps it is of the Spicebush variety. If anyone else recognizes it, let me know and I'll post the info here. ----- Update: 09/12/2005 I think I finally found the proper ID for this butty. Egmont suggested Papilio polytes romulus - The Common Mormon (female) and some specimens I saw indeed looked a lot like my photo. However, as I searched, I found one who's patterns and wing shape were an even closer match. Thanks to everyone who lended aid with this difficult ID. --- Papilio paris paris (The Paris Peacock) FAMILY : Papilionidae A common SE Asian swallowtail. Distribution : South-east Asia & Malaysia (Nepal, India to Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China and Hong Kong) (( It is a long way from home. ;-] )) Distance between the wing tip's is 7-9 cm. Info taken from: YUTAKA ----- Thanks for stopping by and for your tawny comments on yesterday's photo, Golden Helicon.

  • Ah, you are right Pimbo. Not everyone turns into a butterfly, though the potential is there. :] *
