Description

On the bottom of the Voyager is an odd shape that looks like a stubby X-Wing. STAR TREK designers keep suggesting there are large shuttles directly below the bridges of various Federation ship designs (but only showing them in a single TREK film). I tried to interpolate what kind of ship might be hiding behind that strange bump. I really, really hate painting Federation ships. Not only are they a mass of curves, circles, and ovals, the aformentioned curves, circles, and ovals have to be rendered in perspective! This is one category where I would happily burn my drawing table and switch to CG. But painting a live nekked lady is always preferable to playing with a Poser babe. Acrylic on 17" illustration board.

Try using a 3D program to build a basic shaped object (your starship, etc.) with no details, just the basic shape(s) you would need, then render out just a black line drawing in perspective, which you can trace onto a canvas or paper, then add the painting details as you normally would. Might save some time....I know that Cinema 4D, for example has a "comics"-style render capability called, Sketch-n-Toon. I am aware that other programs have similar line drawing render features. But check them out, anyone of them might help....

Well done! And though you may not like their designs, those ships can sure take a beating!

The shuttle is known as an Aerowing. And yet, I don't understand why it was never used? Especially when Voyager started to convert to CGI.

getting one to pose must be even better..;) I know the Enterprise D had one (and the E), named after Cousteau's ship. I've modeled the Intrepid class, and it can be a trial doing that, too..;) but anything worth doing is worth doing well..great work..

Curves, circles, and ovals aside, you did a terrific job with this one!
