Description

This old imperfect image is posted for one reason: To let folks know there is a National Memorial to D-Day, located in a small town of Bedford, Virginia, USA. This is a few miles west of Lynchburg. The town was chosen because it lost the highest percentage of population of local people during this historical event. The small town has the wonderful memorial to a terrible time and a war forgotten by many and haunting the memories of the old verterans on all sides who lived through it all. D-Day was the invasion by allied forces launched from England to French shores, beginning the end of the war in Europe. This was World War II. The image is of sculpture of a beach scene. The artist has intentions of redoing the forms to better suit the scale of the memorial. The website for the memorial is http://www.dday.org/ I despise war. I know that one was terrible as are all wars. I do know that D-Day helped bring the war in Europe to an end. TomDart. it's wonderful, Tom!!! the image is beautiful (and beautifully taken)...and i got chills reading your narrative. i hate war too. just so damn stupid for people to go around killing each other. why do we humans always resort to that??

Wonder ful shot and edit. Human's are capable of so much yet we don't use our hands in a good way! If the politicians had to lose their own or actually get there's hands dirty it won't stop. But it's a think of weaker people being propagandered to and falling for someone who wouldn't fall for them - please take that comment lightly and don't read too deeply into it...

It's a perfect image, Tom. I remember seeing the dedication of this monument on TV. My Dad landed at Omaha Beach so this is a special capture for me. Thanks.
