Description

Shot from Mont-Saint-Michel (Normandie) which shows a nearby island: Tombelaine. You can go there on foot when the tide is out. But wanderers frequently underestimate the speed of the water, running into the bay again. The coast of the Normandy is very special because of the huge tidal range of up to 14 metres around Mont Saint Michel. The water runs with 30km/h which is kind of very fast when it's directly behind you. ;-) If you can run 30km/h you may still have a problem when you find yourself trapped in quicksand, which you can also find in the watt around the Mont. Real problems occur, when you are trapped in quicksand AND the tide rises! So, maybe it's enough to take photos and don't do any experiments. ;-) If you want to look at the Mont and Tombelaine from a save distance - you can find Tombelaine at 48.66N 1.514W on maps.google.com. Mont-Saint-Michel is right south of it. (Try and look for the water (northwest) and you'll notice how extreme the tidal range really is!) I hope you enjoy!
