Description
This little fellow was eating a purple plum leaf. I think he is some variation of the "pack saddle" caterpillar but I have never seen these colors! Anybody know?

I think it's a Saddleback caterpillar..they love Hibiscus down here in Florida, and having brushed against one on a couple of occasions, I know just how painful they can be.

Thank you so very much for looking. I put him back in the purple plum tree because the leaves are soon to fall anyway! He is for sure a "stinger"!

Thank goodness I don't have any of those! (yet) I have enough to worry about with the ants, aphids and japanese beetles thank you very much. He looks positively fierce and quite large too. Great shot, thank you for sharing (I am sure to have caterpillar nitemares now.

Awesome macro and neat find! I think he's definitely a saddleback, although the one I found when I surfed the web was brown with the purple 'saddle'. Wonderful shot! :^)
