Don't knock yourself too much. For a beginner this isn't bad at all! Her left elbow isn't quite on the bed, i'd select the 'body' and use the trans dials to slide her to the left a bit more. As to the lighting, the tips I can offer are a follows : Play with using spotlights; select one of the lights, click the properties tab to the right side of the composition window, and select 'spot' if it's on 'infinite'. Toy with using some spotlights to cast better shadows, positioning and rotating the lights, etc. Also you can play with actually turning 'shadows' off (via properties tab as well) on some of your lights as well. This not only will speed render time (play with it, see which one is giving the most light on the scene, turn the shadows off on the ones that aren't, stuff like that. Keep at it, this isnt' bad for a newbie picture. ^.^ Practise makes perfect. And if you need clarification or have questions on anything I've said here, do feel free to PM me. I might not answer until late-night, but I will answer. :)

Good looking first render, pose and expression on the character look great. You've created a nice scene but like Seliah already said play around with the lighting dials and colors. The shadows on the wall should not be there if the light behind her is shining her way. Keep trying and don't loose hope there is a lot of help to be found and you can also find some great tutorials in the tutorials section of renderosity. Have a great weekend and keep rendering.

I like it, the flair is great ... I think you have what it takes !!!

Yes doing very nicely, but you need to move the light source. the shadow is on the same wall as the light.
