I used citygen for this, the main exercise was to try and get the feeling of massive scale using enviroment fog, i threw in a flocking particle set for fun more of this rubbish at http://www.black-and-white-to-color.com/ipbsfx/ Pop over, say hello and teach me some real skills !!

ah..no..you make a texture and "mass" apply it, if you were really into mega detail you could texture everything separately... i suppose you could even do it polygon by polygon
