Description

Built in Indiana by the Auburn / Cord / Duesenberg group, the Cord remains a classic of Art-Deco on 4 wheels. This paticular Boat tail Speedster auto has: Convertible Top Front-wheel drive Supercharged Lycoming 8 cylinder engine A massive coffin-nosed hood Integrated wrap-around grille assembly Pontoon front fenders The first disappearing headlamps (retracted by hand-crank and cable-operated mechanisms center hinged doors. Lower body sills that eliminated traditional running boards. The cord company installed a 289 cubic-inch V8 engine that gave this vehicle life in the Fast Lane. The engine was rated at 125 horsepower, with the supercharger the horsepower increased to 170 bhp. The 125hp engine was capable of 90 miles-per-hour with a zero-to-sixty rating of about 20 seconds. A four-speed pre-selector was used, and the wheels were fitted with drum brakes. There was arguably no faster car in America at the time than a supercharged Cord and this supercharged model car was clock at over 110 MPH . The Price when new was around $2,960, The price now : $100,000.00. I took this image at the Riverside Resort & Casino in Laughlin Nevada in the Classic cars exibit on the 2nd floor. They have a outstanding top notch collection with alot of the classic autos ever made as well as many different kinds of Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

There you went and did it, posted a picture of one of my top 3 favorite cars of all time. These are particularly beautiful, I think, and I think your photo is so great that it just seems to be what it is, a dream that will never be realized. Sigh. Perfectly splendid photo.
