Description

Registan means 'Sandy Place'. It was the heart of the ancient Samarkand. It has three imposing structures. The earliest being the Ulugh Beg Madrassa ( religious seminary ) on the left (1417 - 1420 ), the Sher-Dor Madrassa (1619 -1636 ) on the right and finally the Tilla-Kari Madrassa( 1646 -1660 ) in the center. All the structures have been renovated. This much photrographed ensemble is truly an imposing sight.
