Description

Yellowhammer Emberiza citrinella In summer the male Yellowhammer can look as yellow as a canary, but with thin black lines around the face and a rustier breast. Females are duller but clearly yellow and the juveniles are duller still, sometimes showing no yellow at all. They can be told from most other streaky brown birds by the combination of a rich chestnut rump and obvious white outer tail feathers. Breeds and winters in hedgerows and scrub, especially gorse and hawthorn thickets. Widespread and numerous in most of Europe. 19-20 million breeding pairs. Large populations are found in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Britain. Widespread elsewhere in Europe except for the south-west and south-east. http://www.birdguides.com/html/vidlib/species/Emberiza_citrinella.htm Photos taken with Konica Minolta Dimage Z5 Thanks for watching :-)

Such beautiful photos, Gan! We don't have this bird in Canada... but I sure wish we did. It looks very much like a cinnamon canary (my mom has one) except for the forked tail. I love to watch for birds at the backyard feeder and also on walks down by the Niagara River. If I take the binoculars... for sure there will be nothing to see... and if I don't... well... you know the story... ;) That azure blue sky is something else, too! Thanks for the smiles, hon... truly gorgeous images! :)
