I was out back photographing the angel Trumpet plant for some Farie hats and thought I would share it with you. Its a pretty cool plant, that during the day folds up its pedals and goes to sleep or hides itself from the sun. In the eavening just before sunset it opens its pedals and stays that way all nite long emiting a sweet, angelic-fragrance ( kind of sweet with light lemony overtones ). The plant is consitered to be very poisonous (Nightshade Family)to animals and humans so care should be taken if children are going to be present. The ANGEL'S TRUMPET grows fast, upright, often forming an umbrella-like canopy, under which huge 9-12 inch trumpet shaped flowers descend. The flower opening can easily be 5-6 inches. There are a few different colors and this one is a kind of off white and lite Peach color. The natives of Brazil and the mountains of Chile / Peru smoke the leaves for a strong narcotic affect. The plants are sometimes ingested for recreational or shamanistic intoxication, however, because the potency of the toxic compounds in the plant is variable, the degree of intoxication is unpredictable, and can be fatal. In 2004, a teenager in Halle, Germany, took Angel's Trumpet in a mixture with tea and because of the severe hallucinations, cut off his own penis and tongue with a pair of garden shears.
