I have always liked 'llIustration' and tend to produce it either as Cover Art or Sequential imagery. The former is probably the more challenging because of the balance that needs to be struck between form and content, decoration and narrative. Cover Art, like the short story, gets a limited shot at indicating what lies beneath the cover. My current preoccupation has been described, and I think aptly, as 'nostalgic sci fi and pulp'. And someone also suggested that it might be a little too late to revive the 'adventure genre'.
Stylistically, I'm keen on the commercial illustration of the mid 20th Century that was made to promote 'mass' publication (especially children's annuals, pulp magazines and comics). There is so much creativity and artistic competence to found on the covers and within the pages of even the most mundane examples.
It is over the last 7 years that I have started to use, and like, digital media. My working methods are still a little too intuitive and involve the usual squinting and standing back that one associates with traditional media, but I am enjoying making imagery more than ever and would now like to explore the possibilities of illustrating written stories (preferably by working with an author).
Interests: Commercial illustration and sequential imagery of the mid 20th Century that was made to promote 'mass' publications (especially children's annuals, pulp magazines and comics).

Another great job, amigo! You know I always LOVE the way you frame your images as magazine covers. I like the balance created by the two circular elements (planet and the rings and bottom of the blue ship). I also really like the simplicity of the texture on the blue ship. It really works here. I suspect a more complex pattern would actually detract from the scene and make it a cluttered mess, rather than the clean scene you have here. I am concerned, however, that the front of the blue ship is too dark. It just seems to blend into the space background. I think a second, smaller light source on the front of the ship would help pull it out from the background, particularly the cool-looking fin at the top of the ship. Also, you might want to rotate the damaged ship so that the red planet shows through the damaged area. It took a second viewing for me to notice the damage (it blends into the darkness), and this interrupted the story that youre trying to tell with this image. But, of course, these comments are just me obsessing over details. As usual, another GREAT job!

I wonder if the real epic magazine had a cover that good, congrats on entering the world of modeling, really great first try.

Hey Mike, Great Composition as always, meaning: the picture instantly reads as a genuine cover from that era. (even though epic comes much later in time) I hesitate in suggesting details you might add because I think part of your success in style is to not overcomplicate, as the 50's cover art also kept some things simple. Regardless, I would suggest some burn marks around the engine exhaust. Perhaps a more enveloping atmosphere around the planet. Love the Space Salvage theme, great work on the destroyed ship. Like the inner detailing on the blue ships engine.

ALL YOUR FAKE COVERS ARE WODERERFUL!!!! I'm lucky to discover you on Renderosity. Now my goal is to achive your "pulp style" on my vintage images! I've just added you to my FAVORITE ARTIST!! As I've said in my comment on your Popular Western Cover Art picture Just a suggestion: the magazine title fonts are perfect, but I find the titles fonts too modern, try to use more "vintage" fonts. For the rest all is SIMPLY PERFECT!
