really the water buffalo should also be pulling something, like a wagon-load of sugar cane, but maybe it was her (?) day off..

Actually, the water buffalos subcontracted the camels to do the wagon pulling. ;o) I think it has something to do with their union contract.. LOL

Dont they worship cattle there? That is probably why they are not working I bet! :) Excellent photo!!

cattle are sacred to hindus, i dont know if that applies to water buffs, but they are working animals. one pic i should have taken was of a long column of wagons parked. they were carrying sugar cane (i think it was), and each buffalo was munching on the contents of the wagon ahead. i remember feeling sorry for the lead buffalo, who had nothing in front of him ! i should say that these india pics are over 15 years old (i only recently had them converted from film to digital) but i would guess that you could still take a very similar pic there today. thanks for commenting.
