Does anyone know if there is a way to get rid of that bright haze around the highlights without dimming the highlights themselves?

Was this easy to make? Even if so you deserve a medal. Ain't got no advice for you on how to get rid of the highlights, but to me this render really benifits from their presence. Really love the combination of realism and surrealism here.

I'm not sure how you made the highlights, but I would simply place lights and turn on the lens flares, without light emission ofcourse.
