Description

Well I finally landed a job in my field, which allows me to finally relax and get back to doing what I love instead of having to impress employers. I have so much catching up to do, you all have upped the level of skill on here so much since I posted regularly 2 years ago. Thanks for all your comments on my last image "Katharos" Oh one more thing, do you any of you know a good place to learn how to make a good surface map? I suck at it (just good at hiding it haha) and could use a few pointers to save some trial and error rather then fumbling with it myself. Thanks!

Dang. If it had been 1024x768, you'd have got an "A". :)

very nice. Yeah I noticed, I guess you stuck with your strengths, hehe, but it worked well for sure. I doubt I should be any kind of example but.. I have been doing mine from scratch basically so it can be different every time and so I can learn it since I'm still inexperienced in my mind. Some tips are to try making masks with world machine (if you have it), also pick colors that seem to naturally go together, and have a couple versions of each color in use. You can pick colors out of an existing image if you want. Understanding how the distribution works with the settings and child system is key. When you begin, make your layers all freakish colors so you know exactly where they are and how they react to changes. Congrats on the job.

I suck at surface maps also...so I cheat...that is, I use other peoples maps and tweak and twist them untill I get the desired effect. Go to terranuts.com and download the free surface maps. If nothing else you will see other peoples techniques and can learn from that...BTW, I like the blue sun and water reflections!

Welcome back and glad to hear that you landed where you can do what you like. This image is wonderful, lighting, sky, water all terrific. Best way for improving surfaces, imo, just practice and keep it simple.
