Description

no matter how many good things one says ,one critique can make it all water under the bridge. if my comments sound dry and not descriptive, it is to avoid causing problems. I was asked also by another lovely person why I am not voting in my comments, since the artists here chose to put several of my posts in the hot 20. well, I am voting as much as ever, but I refuse to be accused of trading votes and the comments is not the place to vote as far as I know. I agree that it seems like some people maybe trading votes which is wrong, but I can only answer for myself. even when I answer for myself I often stick my foot in. I appreciate your comments and visit. I sincerely hope all are having a wonderful weekend. foto by me at Turtle creek, Highlandpark,Tx and I got one of the Cormorants with a huge frog in it's mouth and the legs are hanging out. I may post next week

very lovely place and I vote with no clue too... for the same reasons you give and others too. now if that person is in the hot 20mand jucst went there and saw the image and how many votes then come back to his image to see what my comment is the go back to the hot 20 and see it when up one then they will know I voted. But other than that they will not know

Looks like you're still in the early stages of Fall. Here in Scotland, we're coming to the end and there are only a few deciduous trees still holding onto their last few leaves and their colour. Thank you for the memory of glorious early Fall! :)

A fantastic autum atmosphere Richard!!! It looks so warm and peacefull!!! Here the rain is since days splattering against the window and it is getting much colder!!!! I wish I could be in your image!!!! Wonderful captured!!! Excellent work!!I do it like evilouise sometime I write in my comments vote sometime not. I got the impression that some people feel ignored if you write not in that you voted for her image also if it is outstanding! It is not everytime easy to make it right for everybody!! Hugs Ute

Good for you Richard! When I posted my "Who is this Art guy?", one particular response was about the Hot20 and such. I think it is up to each artist to decide why they post here, and what they hope to get out of it. It would be sad if all they are interested in, is winning a popularity contest. I know that I re-evaluated my own expectations, and decided to turn off rankings, awhile ago. I am flattered when people claim to vote for my images, but to be honest, I have never bothered to look to see if I was in the Hot20. I am more interested in how people react, emotionally, to my work. I think you are being honest with yourself, and that is always a good thing! Just keep making your art for yourself, and friends! Great thread Richard!!!

Excellent pic & Excellent comment - Digmon also touches on a goo0d point-I addressed very similar in my post yesterday. The hot 20 is basically a High School popularity contest, reminds me of the Homecomming King/Queen race off yanno? I too, am more interested in viewers mental reactions; therein lies the cxrux of the problem, (not just me)I think all "us artists types" in self honnesty, KNOW our art isn't for everybody, and there's a great (for me anyways) disappointmnent in seeing this hugh disparity between hits/viewings - comments/reactions. Critiquing-implies that someone knows exactly how a design is constructed, and can tip on making it better. Been my experince most critics are just motor mouthing a personal, interior motivated agenda, on my gallery at least-not saying this to offend anyone, just comming from a newbies objectivity, after all, I've ONLY been here 367 days.

Beautiful autumnal colors, that's what it all is about here, isn't it, just enjoying each other's postings and commenting them honestly!? Voting or no voting, it's all about beauty etc., not about populism or so and I'm glad you are conscient of that! :)

A beautiful Autumn image...I love the colors and the reflections...thank you Richard. :-) As for the voting.. I am still kind of a newbie and learning as I go. I have always posted my votes just to let the person know how much I loved the image and now I see that may not be a good thing? So I guess I should and will vote secretly from now on. Live and learn. As for the Hot 20 and the Last Week in the Gallery pages... they are wonderful for those who are selected but not so great for those who rarely are.. lol I've re-evaluated too...like Digimon and have turned off rankings. That is not what is most important to me here. :-) Thank you Richard for your thoughts and beautiful image too. :-)

I did not even know there was a top 20, shows how intuned to things I am. I guess because like a lot of you I like to keep it on a certain level, an uncomplicated one. I Just love to share my photos and creations with people who have like tastes and appreciate my efforts, I also like to check out and show my appreciation on others efforts, As much as time will alow. 'No Worries', that is my motto! As for this shot? It is absolutley Gorgeous Richard!! I love the colors and the serene feel to it! It looks to me like an oil painting!8-)
