Description

Hi everyone. Need some advice and tips. This re-imaging of the Battle of Hoth has been hanging around my work in progress folder for sometime, and of late I have made efforts to complete it. It's almost there. The composition is fine, the sweep of the scenery is great but the foreground just isnt working. Normally I use a good/working color palette on my peices but I am struggling with this one. The troopers aren't coming out right and the colors for all the containers littered around the place dont gel with the foreground at all, and there is still much detail to add.... I want to see closeure on this peice very soon but I want a cracking peice of artwork as well, so any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

I think your shadows are far too dark... there's going to be LOTS of bright light bouncing off the white snow, so the dark shadows on your foreground objects contribute to making them look out of place. Try lightening your shadows, with a bluish tint, sort of like the shadows on the snow in the background - even a slight bluish tint on the foreground canisters will help them blend in better - IMHO, of course!

the terrain is perfect and the sky is a touch of class, the advice of Colin sound right for me, but in order to have a perfect comic frame, I'd just add soem detail to the person in the foreground, the other are so nice :)

Maybe add some texture and color to the main foreground character to deliniate a center of interest. The face is a little flat and pasty. Otherwise, this is superb. The snowscape is ultra convincing with terraine and background. The characters are posed and scattered with a real sense of movement and purpose and, well, this is one damned good piece of scifi

Your background and lighting are fantastic! I agree about the shadows too. And the forground person is a bit distracting but what a great image!

It's a real good start. Perhaps add a little haze on the background (characters appears too clearly to me). Concerning the foregroung : the character is too dark and seems to be a 2d picture (isn't it ?) and need some more work, especially on shadows ans specularity. Shadows on the snow are good enough and seem real as they are now, but not on the characters (also too dark, as for the building structure on the background). Don't know how to do : add perhaps some ambiance on textures to blend with the overall snow mood of the picture. Keep it up, it's a great idea and sure will be an outstanding piece.
