Description

"Full many a gem of purest ray serene, The dark unfathomed caves of ocean bear." --Thomas Gray

The bravest of souls who take a leap of faith and dive headlong into the Grand Chasm have quite a surprise in store for them. After falling for what seems like an eternity, they plunge into a dark fluidic mass, warm and embracing. The momentum of their fall pushes them down, ever down, until suddenly the magnetic poles shift and down becomes up. With the final dregs of air in their lungs all but used up, they break the surface of Oceanus Maerlindra. Not quite water and not quite oil, the liquid of Oceanus Maerlindra is just as colorful as the Caverns, cradling the intrepid explorer in its comforting embrace. The chromatic sky echoes back the iridescence of the rolling Oceanus with dazzling intensity. A few have ventured guesses that this is the fabled remains of the Titan Oceanus, circling "normal" reality in one quite apart from ours. ----- A little more postwork was done on this one than the previous two, but it still is pretty much as it was photographed, though you might not sea an ocean in it like I did. :) Thanks for stopping by and for your gaping comments on my last photo, The Great Chasm of Maerlindra.

Very cool! The story reminds me of those bio-luminescent critters that make the ocean glow! Would love to see that in person! Great stuff Kort-san!!
