Description

Edited to put in 2D instead of Bryce gallery... General interpretation of the US adminstration answer to certain questions... Addition to notes that I realized needed to be made... This is an example of the type of response this US administration gave when asked about torture; though to be fair, was followed by denial of use of torture. I am also happy to add some recent news: "A congressional conference committee is expected to vote soon on amendments to the annual defense spending bill (military appropriations bill) that would prohibit U.S.-sponsored torture anywhere in the world. President Bush has threatened to veto the entire bill if it includes the anti-torture provisions, and Vice President Dick Cheney is pressing to exempt the CIA from the ban. Earlier this month, the Senate defied the White House and voted overwhelmingly to impose new anti-torture restrictions on interrogating detainees in U.S. custody or control. The vote was 90-9 in favor of the amendment sponsored by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., with 46 Republicans joining 43 Democrats and one independent in support of the new prohibitions against the use of torture. There is a danger that the anti-torture language could be removed or seriously weakened when the Republican-controlled conference committee reconciles the House version of the bill (which does not include similar language) and the Senate bill. The conference committee is expected to begin its deliberations soon." I guess the current US senate isn't as corrupt as I thought. :-) But we still have to worry about the rest of this administration...
