Description

In the so called "Dark Ages" (although in fact they were nothing of the sort) after the Roman legions left Briton, a Celtic War-Leader called Arthur banded the tribes together to fight off the invading Angles and Saxons. He was a man of his time - hard, ruthless & ferocious on the battlefield. The whole concept of "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table" is a product of Victorian romantic novelists. First time I've seen that old torc of ours being used! Great image, although I'd love to see a few battle scars on that otherwise sweet face. As you probably know, I work closely with one of the leading Arthurian experts, Steve Blake, and he'd love to see this. Just to pick up on a couple of historical points; it was really the Normans who started the whole King Arthur romances, followed by the French... but, yes, the Victorians fed on it too. As for Arthur fighting the Anglo-Saxons... well, the Welsh writings never mention them. He spent all his time fighting other Britons, which seems to be born out by the 6th century British monk Gildas. These same Welsh writings, of course, never call him a king either, but a 'dux belorum', or 'battle leader'. This could very well explain why Gildas never mentions him, as he only has a go at the 5 kings of the Britons. Great work, Mak
