Basilica of Saint Peter, Rome, Italy The basilica of Saint Peter (completed in 1626) is a part of Vatican City State. This photo shows 2 members of the Swiss Guard controlling a passage on the left side of the basilica. The Swiss Guard as part of the Military of the Vatican City is small force responsible for the security of the Apostolic Palace, the entrances to the Vatican City and the safety of the Pope.
