Description

Here's a mini reportage style serie which subject is VERY dear to my heart.
I came accross these people by chance, while walking the streets of London on the 10th of November 2005.
I took a few shots, it was my way to participate in the campaign.
After a while, a Chinese girl came to me and asked me if I was for a free Tibet!! What kind of a stupid question was that?? So anyway, I did answer her the best I could cos anger always makes it difficult for me to talk about this subject and sadness always takes over, forcing me to stop cos the knots in my throat and heart are just too much to handle.
So I just walked away, sobbing, and I think I managed to make her cry too. It wasn't my intention though....

So here's my small contribution and I hope my images will help a little, if not to free the Tibetans from the Chinese, to, at least, remind people that slaughter and despotism is happening in Tibet even though you don't see it on the news...
Thx for taking a look.

thank you for reminding me that there are a lot of places in the world where people are denied the freedoms the rest of us enjoy.

Your contribution is beautiful. Our collective thoughts and intentions become reality. Lets all meditate and/or pray on this to make freedom happen for Tibet and the rest of the world.

Well done ~ good use of photography and the internet. Lately I've been watching BBC World news, as it's on every morning here in Chicago, an american edition, but still from London. I'd started watching BBC when I was in Manila 2 years ago, now that it's available here.... Anyway, american tv no longer has news, it's about celebrities, feel good stories, how cute the 'news' team can be - important stories about real events just doesn't get to us [doesn't sell product/ratings donta'cha know] so the internet, and shots like this, sources like BBC & NPR become vital. Well done tibet2004uk!

A touching cause for which I have much affinity.................. " Yet looking around, I see that it is not only we Tibetan refugees and members of other displaced communities who face difficulties. Everywhere and in every society, people endure suffering and adversity - even those who enjoy freedom and material prosperity " Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama, 1999.

Intense! A Protest that has been going on so long...and now I see that a Railway may be planned to carry the Tourists to the Roof of the World (Chinese Initiative)...yep...hard to know what is important anymore...the NEWS Source can be about..."Hairstyles & Wardrobe"...well, it is in NZ....and...last Night....the News only seemed to feature....New Zealand Hosting the World Rugby Cup in 2011 ....and already the Govt. has Pledged $20 Million...if You mention Tibet here....90% of the Population would say....Edmund Hillary or Everest....and the Persecution goes un-noticed...this is just My View Point.

Much can be said not only for the photograph but also the political oppression facing the country. Any country, including the U.S. which has illegally invaded Iraq in the 'name of freedom', has violated international law and is just as guilty as China. So I look forward with great anticipation to your next image in this series. Thank you Pascale.

I have always been aware of the situation in Tibet and find it a crying shame when the powers of the super nations are being applied elsewhere for less worthy causes (oil). A wonderful reportage shot Pascale and you have my own support on this issue.

thank you! if someone has doubts about the work of the media, Tibet is the best case history - but I agree with Egmont, the problem of dishonest media is worldwide, also internal to "democratic" nations. You have my solidariety

As the movie 7 years in Tibet showed, the oppression once started and with little or no journalists it passes by almost unnoticed, this world is only interested in places with oil-interests and where camera's can record everything straight away! Not to mention all injustice in the close vicinity, in our society (like the Dutch society where asylum-seekers (put in prison as if they were criminals!) become victim of fire with many casualties). Time for Christmas, peace on earth, but the bible told yet the end of times would be abounded by wars and other misery and it makes me long so much for the better world! Excellent work, Pascale, very thought-provoking, and the capture is a perfect statement!

There is an estimated 1,306,313,812 Chinese people in 2005. The tragedy in Tibet will never be resolved until the Chinese people themselves, collectively condemn the oppression. I pray that day will be soon. Excellent piece Pascale, I look forward to the next image in your series. This is a very important topic!

A very sad and outrageous situation. I am familiar with the inhumanity that has gone on in Tibet for many years, it pulls at my heartstrings as well. Great photo, it really captures this womans passion about this cause.
