I feel there is potential here. However another elements is needed to tie in the graphic portion with the photograph. I see the use of type as if this is a photographic illustration for an article. Even another strong graphic element if you decided not to use type would help strengthen the final composition. I will say this, I have a lot of respect for your constant quest to experiment and try uncharted territory.

Ian, this is so dramatic and an effect image depicting "Anger". The red represents blood to me. The spray of the blood is a sure image of violence. I am disturbed by your image, but at the same time I recognize the reality that exists in today's world. A tragedy of today effecting so many, but the children the most.

Great abstract work......... could almost be a Martian hill shot from above when there was water on the planet........ not convinced by the blood, it's red and that is all......... the red against the blue is very effective and gives the whole piece a quite mysterious feel.......... excellent work
