Description

Sion and the Bietschhorn covered by a typical lense-cloud, the highest mountain in this area causing the forming of these orographic clouds. Explanation of this link: http://ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu/(Gh)/guides/mtr/cld/cldtyp/oth/org.rxml (University of Illinois). Time for me to move to the next (and last spot) on my way to Geneva! Hi Jan-Carel, Another nice shot. The lozenge shaped clouds above the Beitshorn possible signal the freezing layer, much as "anvil heads" on thunderheads. Possibly there is a shearwind effect at work as well. Again, a link is always good to chase out. Thank you -- Dick
