My wife bought me a camera when I promised to give up smoking! I havn't had a cigarette for 3 months now but I still miss them.BIOBirth = 1962
Status = married (I don't deserve her)
Job = teacher (mostly economics)
Residence = Switzerland (not one of the beautiful bits)
Hobbies = Books (she says we have no more space)
TV (she says I watch too much)
DVD (she says they are a mess)
Food (she says I must loose weight)
Photography (she says my pictures are no good) - sighs
SHE IS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME!

Also not the best part of town. However I do have a question for you. I was under the impression not all of China is open to foreigners and one is required permits to travel to certain areas and have a government guide with them. You on the other hand seem to have free access? I also understand there is two types of currency in China, one for the Chinese and the other for tourists.

@Egmont: You are quite right, there are area closed to foreigners but these are much fewer than they were. I wanted to travel from Dalien to Lhun (ex-Port Arthur where the Japanese defeated Tsarist Russia in 1905) and was told that as a military zone that I wouldnt be allowed to go there. I have also heard that there are other areas where foreigners are not welcome: military areas (but these are controlled everywhere, also in Switzerland and in the US) and politically sensitive areas including parts of Tibet and places where there are strikes/political protests etc I first visited the Peoples Republic in 1987 in a group led around by an officially sanctioned guide. At the time, there were in effect 2 currencies (as there had been in the USSR) but these were becoming less and less important (we were able to use normal RMBs) and were finally abolished in the mid 1990s if my memory seves.
