Description

I went through a spell of doing paintings of starcraft from unrelated shows meeting up with often violent results. This one is more of a comment on the Deep Space Nine's size. Paramount's SFX crew were notoriously lackadaisical when it came to maintaining a consistent size relationship between different ships. For example, in some shots, The Enterprise-D is showwn docking INSIDE the upper pylons, with plenty of room to spare. HAH! Well, no amount of fudging can make the DS9 large enough to handle the multi-mile-long GALACTICA. I just remembered how I laid out the DS9 image. I held the Playmates toy of the station in my left hand, placed it between my POV and the board, then tried to keep relatively motionless except for my right hand that quickly outlined the staion. Working with a slide projector is a lot easier. Acrylic on 15' x 24" matte board.

Not that it really matters all that much, but the "official length" of the Galactica is considered to be 610 metres

Hmmm..the dimensions of DS9 have been endlessly debated (See Berne Scheider's 'Ex Astris Scientica' site for more info that anyone could possibly fathom..;), there's also the 'DS9 Technical manual', which establishes the 'official' dimensions of the station. I've done a coupla models of the place, and even the worst Galatcica ever done (don't worry none..;), so I can imagine what this took to do..great work, keep it up.

"610 meters"??? That's less than a half mile long. Somebody dropped a decimal point or a digit somewhere. In the original series, the SFX crew talked about the Galactic being three miles long. A length of 610 meters makes the Galactica barely larger than any of the Enterprises. The website "Starship Dimensions" builds cases for three different sizes. I prefer the length of 14,290 feet and a width of 5735 feet.

Find the original BSG book, based on the original movie, from what I recal the ship size is given in the general description of the Galactica. Either way it looks good to me, has a mat painting feel about it.
