Description

UF4 When I render and save in large BMP format and then resize and sharpen in PSP and save as JPG I lose a lot of clarity. Does anyone know how I can avoid this please? What am I doing wrong?

I don't save mine in bmp in UF. I save them as jpegs. jpeg files cover more colors than bmp files, and that's why they look better. I learned that a long time ago when I was doing other sorts of graphics. Hope this info helps. This is a real beauty Jenny! V (: OH! Please write me. OE messed up and I lost my address book. ): xooxox's

I also save as jpegs in UF..and then I add an "a" or a "2" to the file name, so it's not replaced but saved as a new image. Technically, I don't know if it makes a diff. Downsizing always results in diminishing detail or clarity. Saving a bmp image as a jpg really shouldn't make a huge difference, but I find that it darkens the image just a tad. I do that in Terragen. As for your posted image, I think the design details are fantastic, and I like the royal blue with the avacado. Beautiful and excellent!

A quite good trick and that many times I use as much in fractals as in designs in 3D, it is to make the following thing, if the final measure in which I want that my work is in for example 800x600 pixels, the render makes it in 3200x2400, saving the file like bmp, then I load it in PSP and I give him the measure in 800x600 and I save as jpg, the loss of details is much smaller to be the original of a bigger size, it is logical that if you have the file bmp in 800x600 and then it saves him as bmp, the loss of details will be much bigger, I hope this serves him. Excellent and very creative fractalwork Jenny....!!!

A beautiful fractal and nice coloring. I make my fractals 2 or 3 times as large as I want the finished image. I save as a PNG file. I do NOT check antialiasing when I save as PNG. Then I downsize in ACDSee and sometimes slightly sharpen and then save as JPG. Everyone has their own way of preserving detail. It takes some experimenting.

It looks beautiful to me, Jenny. Try using the clarify function in PSP under Adjust-Brightness and Contrast before saving. This helps sometimes.
