Description

Having narrowly escaped the clutches of the Necromancer's undead army, a small group of Mordimus' orcs band together under the sweltering Sarodor sunrise. Hot, tired and thirsty, they wind they way southward towards the mighty Kindred fortress; towards refuge. Feelings of shock and betrayal overwhelm them, having lost so many thousands of their comrades to the senseless slaughter of the night before. Some weep; some scream furiously at the clouds; yet others claw savagely at their own foreheads, desperate to erase the mark of Mordimus they have born since birth. They round one final bend in the path. The walls of the Kindred fortress tower over them. Notes: Posed in Poser, rendered in Vue. There orcs are an ecosystem, with 5 different poses to give a bit of variety. A couple of extra orcs were posed and placed manually to (hopefully) help it look less like an ecosystem. I also created a function/filter to randomly control the visibility (on or off) of the orcs' vests. The trees, rocks and weeds are a separate ecosystem that I kept off the path by creating a custom distribution map. The terrain texture is the 6th generation of my Sarodor terrain material, modified for the slightly less arid soils of the southern Wasteland. But far more importantly than all of that, I'm going to an End of Year Ball on the weekend and the girl I have the massive and impossible crush on will be sitting at my table. (By the way, the "impossible" in "impossible crush" means I don't stand a chance in Hell). If you don't think I'm excited by the thought of spending an evening in her company, you're out of your freakin' mind. :) If she ends up sitting next to me, I may well die of happiness right there on the spot. Don't you just love how exciting, and at the same time terrifying and silly, crushes can be? Gotta love 'em! If you give me the gal's phone number I'll call her and cajole her into sitting at this table with a bit of distance to you... just don't like you to die of happieness. Cuz when yer dead you won't be able to continue this gorgeous series! - This episode for example: Expecting a close-up I am surprised and enjoy to see this completely different outside scene, apparently a random orc-snapshot with an incredible realism... it is fascinating how you are looking into the hearts of even the ugliest creatures.

The orcs are nice but the path they walk on look a little unnatural. plastic, whatever... Anyways, good luck on ur "weekend mission". :)

Fantastic render Darren! I love the combination of Poser and Vue - so realistic! Somehow I seem to feel sorry for these mindless orcs! I guess your story line moved me there! Bravo! BTW, please don't die of Happiness, but I urge you to freely let that excitement be known to this girl you have a massive and impossible crush on! I don't know many girls that can resist that kind of openness and honesty! ;)

Wonderful job on this image. I love the atmosphere you've got going here. Cool idea with the ecosystem to get them all in -there's just enough variety that I didn't start seeing repeats until I was consciously looking. Bravo.

Very, very good! I love the flares from the sun. Excellent poses, they look so - defeated. I guess Savuk will have some reinforcements! I wonder how all this will play out. By the way, good luck this weekend! Strange how a grown man can be reduced to a stammering 14 year old, isn't it?
