Description

Here is my cg talk entry finished , it was done in c4 and c5. the sky uses c5's new volumetric clouds(basic shape cloud) and the replicate on surface for the distant mountains. The gorge and front terrains all the architectural models were done in C4's vm modeler . The characters were modeled in Hexagon then textured in carrara. All the foreground trees were created using Replica to place them on the terrains. I rendered my scene in a bunch of layers ,foreground, middle ground, background, haze and fog layers. I found this a great way to create an image as the haze and fog layers render really quick and you can fine tune how they look in your 2d app. I tried to create a feeling of depth to the image which I think I was successful at using the layers. Anyways , I just thought I would post this image and hope you like it , comments and crits welcome.

I like how it takes on the grandiose leading out from a human scale in a Hieronomous Bosch only slightly distorted style. The Duc de Berry lap robe expansion of a 2 D image is almost entirely overcome. In a monastic sense there is no other side of the mountain. One can enter into the good with surety.

Mike, really nice job of putting together this complex scene. It's nice to see a piece of work taken to its' conclusion. Congratulations on the global perspective. Good luck.

Great work, but the castle on the hill [top/left]...the perspective on the front wall doesn't seem quite right. [?]

Outstanding picture. You've put so much details that it would deserve a much bigger render !

Excelent Mike ! I'd like to give you just one advice : Try to render it in a 16/9, i think it needs to be wide ;) BTW Great work :)

Hey Guys thanks for the comments. Kelley, I noticed the castle too but I couldn't see anything wrong with it and have become used to it now. Micaelito, it is too late to make any changes but the widescreen image is a good idea. Nod, the original image is rendered at 3500 X 4500, I may post this in a bit. Bwtr, for the layers I just hid everything that isn't in the foreground layer and rendered out a tiff with a "render alpha channel" turned on and this allow you to separate the different layers in an image editing app. Maybe this could make a good tutorial for 3dxtract.

Great work. I agree with Micaelito, a widescreen version would be good.

Just another comment Mike. Regarding widescreen image. I would be interested to see that as well. But I have the feeling that the aspect you have chosen is the best. The feeling of depth, to me anyway, is amplified by the aspect that it is now. I somehow feel the image would be "flatter" if in widescreen. The format you have chosen and the layout really directs the eye to where it needs to go. If that makes any sense. Either way, I look forward to a widescreen version to see if I am wrong, which happens a lot. :) I love the image as it is. Great job!!

If Hercules had a 13th labor it would be to get an image like this on a computer monitor having never even seen a keyboard. That's about how this image makes me feel, I've been using Carrara for 2 years and I have no idea where to begin on such an epic journey. Simply fantastic.
