Born in Hilo, Hawaii and class of '66, I became very active in Barbells, Judo and love striking the heavy/speed bag. I've learned to Rollerblade and bike ride which is a very health sport. But time doesn't stop for anyone including for me. So my good friend Dave aka punaguy got me started in taking pictures. I'm having fun taking pictures especially hiking the mountains. I'm enjoying seeing the world thru your post on Renderosity. Mahalo and Aloha....Errol

Ahhh, the red hill that's lying there waiting for you to be climbed! I ask myself, the red in the rocks, is that caused by iron in the rocks? Without grass and blue sky this could really have been Mars, like Olympus Mons or so LOL! Excellent work, Errol, looking forward to see more of your hike! :)

According to the ranger on Mauna Kea, he said that the red cinder cone hills has a lot of iron (or the oxide of iron) giving them a reddish look. Some hills are really strong in red colors such as this one. Walking on loose red cinder rocks is very tricky. Yes, it does look like its out of this world. Thanks for asking

Akemi... Glad you ask. Not sure what the hunters were going for but I've seen a lot of Erckel's, Quails and Turkeys in this area. The buckshot shells were along the road way but never up high on this red hill. I've also seen pheasants but at a lower altitude. Aloha
