Description
about 8 hours modelling and (cringe) 13 hours rendering. not sure why it took so long, i guess it might have been the area light and ALL the reflections on raytrace...
mixture of photo (from my guitar) and procedural textures.
haven't been able to think of a good way of texturing the strings yet so they remain as smooth, elongated discs... (any help with this would be appreciated, i've tried UV's to no avail..)
crit and comments welcome.
thanks.

lookey
The rendering took so long because of DOF which is probably the weakest part of the image. The modeling and texturing are great. Try increasing sampling in render settings. I use Maya and it's called min/max sampling there. I dont know what it's called in LW but try increasing it to somethine above 1 for min and around 3 for max. That should get rid of all that grain.

Very cool POV and i agree with lookey's valid point. There looks like a lot of effort went into modelling this Red SG. As for the strings i would paint a grayscale bumpmap texture in a paint package, and apply a higher contrast version of my saved greyscale to my specular map.

Looking good dude...my guess at the culprit of the render time would be that fact that the camera is a mere fraction of an inch away from quite a few reflective surfaces...i know the render times for my guitar go thru the roof if i get as close to it as you are...and in general render times go up the closer you are to a reflective surface on anything...as for the strings...zeno nailed it pretty good...that's what i'm doing for mine...

lookey, i agree with the depth of field comment, i was using lightwave's depth of field blur filter, rather than in the antialiasing settings and it didn't give me the most pleasing results (look at the strings near the pickup) as for the grain, that is another filter i used, the 'virtual darkroom' in lightwave. in other words, i wanted it grainy..

very nice stuff, nothing to add, just hope you keep on working and rendering!

great work!
