I don't think it's too dark because there are bright side. I think it's ok!

Thats how we looked couple of evolutions before. Note: Make sure ur cropping is better with more headspace, else the subject could be displaced from attention

I'd have to agree that the shadow on its face is a tad too dark - but otherwise an excellent shot of an interesting animal.
