Description
This fall I saw a grasshopper catching the last feeble sun rays with its front legs as if holding a book or something. I imagined him playing cards, and this was the inspiration for this image.
Ambient light is produced by a big area lamp in the ceiling, plus some blue spots to outline the hopper's heads and detach them from the background.
Smoke (over the cigar and under the lamp) are obtained with two transparent planes uv-mapped with a cloudy mask.

This is outstanding work! How long did it take? How long have you been using Blender? Did you train with Maya or 3DMax? Questions, Questions, Questions....

Answers to ByteDreams: This image has taken me two months, working around 8-10 hours each week, because I'm just learning Blender (it's my second work). I began with Blender this summer. Some years ago I had tried 3D-Studio Max (version 2), but I couldn't afford the soft, so I left it. Recently I tried also PovRay, but it was Blender which allowed me to retake this hobby. Thanks to everybody for your comments (and excuse my English, I'm not a native speaker).

What a great scene. And so well executed with plenty of supporting detail. Thanks for sharing !!

Excellent work ! Only the glasses are not very "realistic", but else, your picture is really well done ! Anyway, I won't do better than you because I nearly don't use Blender. It will come ;-D
