Description

I wanted to paint a lovely little ghosty sitting with the bunny on the rocks, bit I think this image is as done as it's going to get. I've sat on it so long (6 months without doing anything with it) I have kinda given up on it, and perfection all together. Besides, I have enough ghosts in my life already. As for giving up on perfection.. yes!! I am :o) and I couldn't be happier. Nothing good in my life is ever forced - art included, and to beat myself up for not being "just like so-and-so" is just silly. This is it. This is what I can do, maybe the next one will be better(possibly worse - lol) but either way, I'll be much happier with it *hugs* to the whole lot of you - Janey :o)

Jane, you are an incredible artist and an enormous inspiration. It's easy to say that when we are overcome by emotion, yes, but in your case the words couldn't be more apt. Despite your conflicts about "wanting to be more like so-and-so," the irony is you haven't done that at all. I've never seen anyone so committed to art just for the reward of learning, of expressing, and that in itself makes you uniquely you and your art uniquely yours, ie/ you are an ORIGINAL. This is just beautiful. The bunny is perfectly painted, the textures are wonderfully done, and the lighting is exactly as it should be. Thank you for sharing it.:)!!

Beatrix Potter meets H. P. Lovecraft. Cute and spooky at the same time. Nowhere else can warm and fuzzy send chilling shivers down your spine. Well done! VOTE

Jane, this is just beautiful work! You have captured the essence of natural beauty so well with a great mix of mystery and a twist of darkness which compliments everything perfectly! Everyone compares to everyone else, and it's human nature to do this, but be content in knowing this is yours in your unique style and it's simply perfectly done! I can't paint at all, and my gallery clearly shows that, so I am in awe of what you did here and can see how it took awhile to create! Please be proud of your work, and it's just stunning in detail and concept! Outstanding work, Janey!!

beautiful one :) this world would be so damned boring with so much perfection going on around, wouldn't it? great discoveries came by from mistakes. so let things be a little imperfect - that is the entire charm of life on earth ;)

It is lovely, Jane, haunting. Remember, for every person we are envious of, there are people envious of us :) It should never be a matter of 'be like' but 'better myself'.

Beautiful image; your painting is wonderful! My imagination adds a troll hiding under the bridge, but that is just me, lol. ;-) The bunny is really astounding, so very realistic. I mention this because a lot of artists seem to have trouble with animals, and yours is really top-notch!

auh hah!! i remember that bunny!! :)) you know, janey, i'd much rather see your work & style over seeing something by you that is forced into trying to hide what is truly yours so to speak. i think learning & exploring are highly important, but to try to create from a place that is not at our core depletes from the joy the spirit could experience. they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, but i believe that, as with anything, it all depends upon the motivation & how you use it - is it to try to discover/learn new techniques? is it just for fun? is it a subtle way of telling yourself that what is yours is not worthy? sometimes i think these lines blur within us, but i'm willing to bet that if there is tranquility, then that is the best way to guage things...

I know it shouldn't be a matter of being like someone else, but deep down inside me there is a very dark competitive side of me. As much as I try to ignore that, I know it's there. This year I want to focus on NOT being like anyone else (including the "I want to be as good as so-and-so" bit). It's hard not to do that when I'm surrounded by so many masterful artists. There is so much to be inspired by and so much to aspire to, it's nearly impossible to not get caught up in wanting to be as skilled or as creative as someone else. JV has a wicked sense of humor, Jess is pure talent, Moe is a perfectionist with a flare, Lahavana shines in both 2d- and 3-d, Vampi's art has such fantastic emotion (and postwork skills far beyond stellar), and Giana's art is mindblowing (creative, dark and beautiful). I want some of everything that you guys have. You guys are my "so-and-so". And I am thrilled to be able to look at what you can do and want that for myself. Now I have to look for a balance between keeping up with the people that most inspire me, without letting that dark side take over and bury me in a piece that is un-natural for my own style only to please the demon in myself that shouldn't exist anyway. huge hugs Love you guys :o)
