Description
Still cruisin the Hilton Waikoloa I came across a small flock of Chilean Flamingos in a small enclosure. The light was fading fast so I got this shot off before it got dark. Here are some facts about this unique bird:
Flamingos get their characteristic pink coloring by eating crustaceans and algae that contain vitamin A-based pigments. Like other flamingos, the Chilean flamingo is pink, but is less intensely colored than its close cousin the larger, scarlet Caribbean flamingo. The primary and secondary wing feathers of the Chilean flamingo are black with bright crimson along the leading edge of the wings. The bill is pink with a black tip and has a characteristic drooped or bent shape. The legs are grey with deep pink joints and webbed feet. The flamingo's call is like the honk of a goose. Chicks are covered with thick light grey down when hatched, and older juveniles are gray with gray legs.

O_o ....here it comes....my...outburst of enthusiasm.....DAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! MY GOD!!!!!!!! What an incredibly beautiful little birdie!!!! Well..not so little...BUT OH SO GORGEOUS!!!! This photo belongs in a wildlife-book or something. The way that pink flamingo looks against that blue background is breathtaking. And the quality is SUPERB!!! I feel a slap coming...itchy fingers, LOL. They dont eat these birds anywhere do they? I cant imagine there would be much meat on those thin legs...bla bla bla...sorry for rambling...but im sooooo bored!!! 4.42am...and i still have one more hour of work left...sigh. So endulge me will ya, while i keep talking to myself...gollum...gollum...Bottom line Dave...You are an amazing photographer, and you dont get half the credit you deserve. I salute you! Better stop now...and perhaps try to do some actual work..how boring it may sound, lol.
