Description

I have modeled some barrage balloons in Rhino to accompany JFandL's excellent Dh2 and Eindecker models. The smoke trail is Bryce metaballs and the engine fire on the Eindecker is modeled in Rhino with Bryce textures. The flak was modeled in Amorphium and uses Bryce textures. The machine gun blasts were modeled in Rhino and use Bryce textures. Let's hear it for Bryce textures. Woooohoo!

Excellent action image!! Love the smoke trails! I wonder how you did that using metaballs, without getting the dredded intersection half circles.

I've always preferred the later Fokker D-VII or Triplanes, but your combo of these early WWI aircraft and the balloon is done superbly. It makes me want to get out my DVD of The Blue Max and "find that baloons burn beautifully."

Thanks Tebok and Digimon. There is postwork on the smoke using the blur and smudge tools in Photopaint. There is also a transparent layer of the little fluffy cloud filter selectively applied. I have found that I cannot get volume smoke or clouds to look good without postwork.

Thanks alpharalph. I find that there hasn't been enough good movies made about WW1 airplanes.
