Description
Earth's natural resources have been almost completely used up by over 500 years of continuously increase human industrial activities. The atmosphere has been poisoned by toxins and the ozone layer had long since been destroyed, making Earth untenable for mankind. And so, in their ships, humanity left the world that had been home to it and its evolutionary ancestors for billions of years, to search for new worlds to call their own.
This picture (and backstory) was inspired by the opening scene of "Serenity," one of my favorite movies. Ship modeled in Wings3D and textured in Bryce 5.5. Earth and Moon created from NASA topographic and cloud satellite images using Photoshop CS. The detail of the ship's overall modeling is obscured by the angle and the texturing, and it's nowhere near as good as many of the models that other fellow artists have been making, but I just have to keep working at it...that's all. Anyway, hope you enjoy!
